Relax on a scenic Kenton on Sea river. Take a river cruises up the Kariega River.

You can hire the boat for a 2 person romantic trip, a family time out or get a group together… your choice!

***

The Bushmans and the Kariega are wonderful tidal rivers to explore and you may be lucky to see game as you go as you will pass a game reserve.

On either side you will see indigenous bush.

The Bushmans river is actually navigable for some 32 kms and is South Africa’s second longest navigable river.

There has not been a significant flood on these rivers since 1972, so they, in particular, the Bushmans is slowly silting up. Smaller floods such as in 2012, have caused damage especially to Bushman’s River village. The river needs a strong flood to unblock the mouth and stop the build up of salty water up stream. While there is a channel to the sea, this is a fantastic recreational river.

In season, there is a real buzz on theses river as many have boats. Out of season, you will be spoilt with wonderful bird life and rare pelicans, Goliath herons and even flamingos have been seen. Listen to the iconic call of the fish eagle as you travel. The swimming is great if you want a dip along the way.

What makes these cruises special, are the knowledgeable skippers and as you go, you will hear interesting bits about the area.

Snacks will be provided. The river you cruise will depend on boat availability.

Life jackets are provided, especially for youngsters.
