The Krantzkloof Nature Reserve and Kloof Falls, managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, conserves 668 ha of the Molweni and Nkutu River gorges which have gouged deeply through the sandstone Kloof plateau. The area has been a reserve since 1950 and forms an important highly protected area in the middle of development. Situated just 4 kms from the Kloof Village centre, it has wonderful walks, view points and lots of wildlife.
Wildlife includes brown bush buck, dassies (rock hyrax), a few zebra, porcupine, bush pigs, mongoose and caracal. The magnificent crowned eagles nest on the cliffs above the falls and you are likely to hear their call as they circle high overhead. It is home to many vervet monkeys and there is a wealth of bird life.  Listen for the distinctive wail of the large trumpeter horn bills and you may see kingfishers, heron, storks and guinea fowl.
There are spectacular views across the gorge which is mostly covered by dense forest and vegetation. You can picnic in the reserve, enjoy the views, walk on your own or arrange to be part of a guided walk. These generally take place over the first and third weekends of each month and cost R50.
There is a picnic spot as you enter the gate. A cash entrance fee is charged. Please ask for and keep your receipt and there is a warden on duty who will advise you if you are unsure of where to go.

You can drive to Bridle Road and enjoy spectacular views from two well marked view sites.

Another picnic site is adjacent to the dam at the head of Kloof Falls. The Nkutu Falls can be reached by turning right at the top of Bridle Road into King George Avenue (which becomes Valley Drive) and continues to the bottom of the hill.
