Born in Pretoria in 1949, my family moved to Durban when I was aged two. At a very early age in primary school, I was inspired by my teacher who encouraged my talent as an artist. I attended Queensburgh Boys High School where I received normal art tuition.
My inspiration and ability to paint increased throughout my youth. While traveling the country during my National service, I saw many works of sculpture in different city centers and realised that sculpture was for me – this was in 1968. I obtained tools and began teaching myself, in those days part time sculpture courses were not available.
I studied Fine Arts and Commercial Art part-time at Durban Technikon. Since 1973 I have exhibited at various venues around the country and have sold extensively to private collectors and completed many commissions.
