LOCAL artists and residents got a taste of the Saunter experience at its pre-launch on Sunday, 26 November before the official launch in December.
From Durban to Hilton is the most beautiful area and, with the exception of the actual Drakensberg, it is more varied and dramatic than the western Midlands.
“We also have amazing artists working here, some of whom are only known to the up country or overseas market. Yet people drive past us to stay in the Midlands. So, it is time to redress that and pull some of these visitors into our own area.
This is the start of showcasing this amazing area under a series of art, craft, collectible, food and activity trails called The Saunter,” said Cheryl Lefevre, from the Gillitts Foundation.
A wonderful eclectic group of artists and crafts people make up the stopping places on The Saunter.
They include glass workers, fi ne artists in watercolour, oil and acrylic, sculptors, wood workers, mosaic workers, shoe makers, clothing and jewellery designers, furniture makers and artisan food products.
There are more than 140 participants and they also include the best of things to do on the route, www.thesaunter.co.za will launch on 15 December.
