Named following numerous wrecks along this Eastern Cape, South African coastline, the Wild Coast is also South Africa’s most unspoilt and beautiful coastline. Rugged, rocky outcrops jut out along the coast, numerous rivers empty into the sea along the coast, often creating fantastic lagoons, some ending in spectacular waterfalls from the cliffs, there are stunning coves and picture perfect beaches are more populated by cows than people.
Small villages dot the coast intermittently and there are just 2 towns we suggest you visit, the beautifully situated Port St Johns and Chintsa, on an incredible, long stretch of beach. Port St Johns has the feel of a neglected paradise and Chintsa is immaculate, each represents its demographic, priorities and municipality. Both should be visited. Each is on a separate Itinerary to assist you.
Some hotels dot the coast making great places for family holidays and on lovely beaches and estuaries you will find great self -catering options. We used to call them shacks but now days they are very comfortable. No child should grow up without a wild coast holiday. Forget internet, phones and gaming… it is about family/friends together, fishing and collecting shellfish if you have a license. It is about swimming, boating and wonderful walks and hikes. It is about time out to recharge as few other places offer.
This is the best place to see the excitement of the natural world phenomenon, The Sardine Run.
The area is popular with many going back year after year, so early booking is critical. Check on the roads before booking and leaving… some cottages are fine to get to with normal cars, some need a 4×4.
