Antbear Lodge is situated in the Drakensberg near Giants Castle. A luxurious 4 star hotel, yes, but it is also an eco retreat where every aspect of your stay is environmentally friendly.
What makes our lodge particularly special is that we offer accommodation in a luxury cave. This suite is built under a rock. Glass doors open onto a wooden deck with hammock, chairs and a spectacular view of the Drakensberg mountains. This is a luxury eco experience. The cave is cozy and comfortable with features like a Jacuzzi spa bath, a fireplace and even has rock art on its walls. We also offer a private dining experience where we setup a table on the deck of your cave and you dine by candlelight under the stars.
Much of the décor at the lodge is handcrafted. Doors, beds, light fittings, chairs, widows and more are unique and crafted to enhance the luxurious eco nature of the lodge.
Antbear Lodge is a smaller owner run establishment with 15 mountain view or garden view suites. Sustainability and responsible tourism are a huge part of the ethos of our lodge and we subscribe as much as possible to the farm to plate concept. We cook all our meals from scratch and have our own organic vegetable garden. We have our own chickens for eggs, cows for milk and bake our own bread and we even make our own cheese and yoghurt.
Spa Treatments can be arranged and include facials, scalp massage, pedi and manicures.
This area offers a lot with spectacular hiking trails with dramatic views and waterfalls. Antbear Lodge offers horse trails ideally suited to beginners in addition to hot air balloon flights that launch from the lodge. A post supper treat is the Star Gazing Hammock Camp where we tell the African stories of the stars. Hiking or riding through a nearby game reserve can be arranged. There is spectacular bushman rock art where you can see some of the best rock art examples in the world.
This is the perfect place for a retreat with a group. It is a place where you can relax or be active… it is a place to unwind!
We have 1 mountain view suite that is wheelchair friendly. We are also pet friendly by agreement.
