The Western Cape extends out from the peninsula and the southern- most point at Cape Agulhas to stretch up the West Coast and up
into the arid Karoo. It extends up the east coast to include the Central and Western Garden Route. Some 2/3rds of the population lives in the
Cape Town area. About 42% of the population is ‘Coloured’. This includes inter racial mixes of White and Black and the Cape Malay people
brought to the Cape originally as slaves. Genetic studies reveal that about 9 to 11% would have Asian roots. The Malay food culture is in dishes
eaten across the country.
The south is mountainous with fertile valleys in between. With iconic Table Mountain, this is the picture of South Africa that most people
across the world have. The coast is beautiful, the climate and lifestyle is Mediterranean in the south and with wine farming a hugely important
part of the economy, a fantastic food culture has evolved. Famed for its incredibly high floral bio diversity.
Accepted as the best governed province, it has the highest numbers of school leavers passing the final school exams and the lowest
unemployment rate. The cost to buy property in the south is high as it has attracted foreign buyers.
