Observe the night sky through the Observatory’s historic telescopes while learning from astronomy enthusiasts.
The Observatory welcomes visitors to its Open Nights in Cape Town, held on the second and fourth Saturday of every month at 20:00.
Each Open Night includes an engaging presentation on a Astronomy/Phyiscs related topic, as well as guided visits to the historic McClean Telescope, the observatory museum, and the library.
Weather permitting, the evening concludes with stargazing sessions using telescopes specially set up for public viewing of the night sky.
Note: Guests are advised to wear closed-toe shoes and warm clothing when attending the tour. As parts of the experience involve walking between locations, we recommend being prepared for varying weather conditions. In the event of rain, please bring along a raincoat or umbrella to ensure your comfort throughout the tour.
