Long considered a top Clarens restaurant, the building had modest beginnings as a maintenance shed for SA Railways. An adoptee cat, named Clementine, who has impeccable manners, has her own chair at the entrance.
Indoors is the main dining space with a specialty bar at one end. There are over 70 whiskies and 60 gins, pot still brandy’s and craft beer. Outdoors has comfortable seating among the roses and a covered gazebo with stunning mountain views.
The Clementines menu caters for upmarket country dining. Starters include Carpaccio, snails, Camembert and fig baked in phyllo. Mains are many including curry, oxtail, steaks as well as trout, duck confit, interesting salads and pasta. Deserts include Pavlova and chocolate indulgences.
