This gem on the Western edge of the Garden Route is not well known. A gorgeous beach with gullies to explore, a great little bay, stunning mountains as a backdrop, fynbos covered walks and one of the countries best natural pools…. the Blue Hole.
Just 10kms from Storms River, the tiny hamlet of cottages at Eersterivier lines the beach. No shops, no swarming crowds, just peace, stunning scenery and fabulous places to swim and explore on good scenic short walks. There are fossil sand dunes with interesting formations, great rock pools to snorkel (with shoes because of spiny sea urchins), rocky gullies to cool off in and a lovely little beach with waves. There are some holes in the rocks close to the sea which are spectacular blow holes at high tide, shooting up spray and foam into the air.
Nature lovers should look out for frolicking but shy Cape Clawless Otters, a great many bird species including the lovely Oyster Catcher, stunning Knysna Loerie (Turaco), bush buck in the lush vegetation, dolphin and, in the right season, whales.
Take everything you need as there are no shops.
