Owned and run by the Rattray family, Fugitives’ Drift is the perfect place to stay to experience luxury in the beautiful Zululand and world-class tours to the Anglo-Zulu War battlefields. Evident in every corner of Fugitives’ Drift is the Rattrays’ love of South Africa, its people, and its unique and diverse history. There are several different options for accommodation at Fugitives’ Drift, with something to suit every budget.
Both the lodge and the guest house offer spacious rooms with private verandas, excellent food, and swimming pools set in beautiful gardens home to innumerable bird species. The lodge is the most luxurious accommodation, with larger, air-conditioned rooms, and inside and outside showers. The lodge also houses the Harford Library, which has panoramic views over the Buffalo River, and the Fugitives’ Drift Museum. Rates include accommodation and all meals.
Guests who would like to self-cater can stay at Umzinyathi Farmhouse. This three-bedroom stone farmhouse, renovated in 2015, is in a secluded part of the reserve and has views out into the bushveld and onto Isandlwana. While, the farmhouse rates exclude meals, these can be taken at the lodge at an additional cost.
Finally, Kwa-George is a small twin-unit set in the grounds of Umzinyathi Farmhouse, and is more suitable for the budget-conscious traveller.
The Fugitives’ Drift game reserve teams with bird life and plains game, which makes for a fantastic place where in-house guests can do scenic self-guided or guided walks.
All rates exclude tours, drinks, and conservation levy.
