Your guide: Wildlife photographer, Dave de Beer

“Having published 2 coffee table books on Southern Right Whales, and constantly being asked about them, land-based Whale Walking Tours evolved.

I’ve been blessed with sharing my passion with visitors to Hermanus for almost 2 decades. Being close to a breaching whale is for many, a moving experience.

My land-based Whale Walking tours are personal and intimate, affording me the opportunity to engage personally with clients. I do, also conduct tours with large groups, using a slightly different format, but the information and experiences are equally rewarding.

Birding is another passion… a patient person’s interest, it demands quiet, a keen eye, vigilance & an interest to learn the different names, plumage and habits. The Overberg is a hive of bird activity. I recommend birding from September to March but with an early start, birding outside of those months is worthwhile too.

Birding down the Klein River remains a favourite guided experience for me, sightings from between 45 to 50 species in a morning.

I look forward to hosting you on a tour in the Overberg.”
