Between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, just 3 kms South of Cato Ridge, is a wonderful old farm which has been turned into a sporting paradise. Take a day trip to have some serious fun with your family or friends. It is R30 per sedan car with 4 people to enter Highstakes. You can go hiking or choose from the various high-octane adventure sports.

There is a fully licensed restaurant to refuel at, part way through the day. A lovely deck from the restaurant gives you sweeping views over the valley, dam and hills. You can also bring your own to have a braai around the pool. Please call ahead to reserve a space as they make sure that the pool area is not too crowded. A small charge of R15 per person is levied to keep the pool in tip top shape.

It is a great area for hiking and birding. Trail runners will have some challenging ups and downs and you have a vast terrain in which to mountain bike with undulating areas as well as cardiac hills.

There is a 400 meter zip line to get your adrenaline pumping. This is R90 per person.

There is archery for youngsters and adults. You pay just R90 per adult and can take your time learning or get help from the friendly Highstakes staff.

Clay pigeon shooting is popular, so test your skill. It is R22 per shot.

Then there is Paint Ball. How good are you at covering your mates with paint? You need 6 people or more to play and it is R150 for 100 pellets.

Quad biking is very popular as is off road motorbiking. You can hire quad bikes and Highstakes will provide a guide to keep you safe!

The Moto X main track is 1.8 kilometers long and features doubles, tabletops, rhythm-sections, rollers, and off-camber corners. They also have a mini track great for novices and the little ones.

4×4: Push your vehicle to the limits! Whether you are a novice or experienced behind the wheel, our course includes 40 degree inclines and will test your skills and set a smile on your face.

If there are some in your group who just feel like mooching and conserving energy… they can enjoy the crystal clear swimming pool.
