Hluhluwe -iMfolosi Game Reserve a Big 5 Game Reserve, the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa, awaits you. This is a low risk maleria area.
The area was initially protected for Shaka’s hunting. In 1895 it was given legislated protection. It comprises 96000 hectares of wilderness, rolling hills, river, water pools and magnificent wildlife. It comprises a northern part Hluhluwe and the southern, iMfolosi.
This is Africa’s most important rhino sanctuary. Beyond the Big 5, there is a wonderful bio diversity here. Well run by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife as part of conservation and protection of wilderness areas within KZN.

Firewood Policy: Due to the Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer beetle, visitors may not bring firewood into the reserve. Firewood is available at official curio shops inside the park.

Perched above rolling Zululand hills, Hilltop Camp is the flagship base inside Hluhluwe-iMfolozi. Expect sweeping views, abundant wildlife, and choose between self-catering chalets or meal-inclusive stays.
For self-catering, there are two-bedded rondavels (round huts) with communal ablutions and kitchens plus 7 two-bedded and 22 four-bedded chalets with their own bathrooms. Another 20 two-bedded chalets are close to the main reception area and are on a bed and breakfast or dinner, bed and breakfast basis..
No air-conditioning but rather fans and all have mosquito nets. All are thatched with high ceilings, so keep cool. Serviced daily. Facilities include a memorabilia filled lounge, game viewing deck, restaurant and bar, swimming pool, laundromat, gift shop, convenience store, conference facilities, and petrol. WiFi is available but patchy.
The camp is securely fenced, so the only camp in the reserve suitable for young children. There is a forest walking trail within the camp as well as the Hlaza Hide, with waterhole and low lighting for game viewing at night.

This partially fenced camp (fenced just for elephant) is in the iMfolosi, southern section. In winter, this is the best game viewing area. At night hyena come right into the camp! Accommodation is fairly rustic, solar powered with lanterns and all fully equipped self -catering.
Choose a safari tens with 2 or 4 beds and a deck, raised off the ground. The kitchen and bedroom are separated by the deck with dining area. Alternately there are 2, 5 and 7 bed thatched chalets (The only units with double & single beds).
All units are with towels, linen, single beds, fans, mosquito nets, bathrooms and plug in points. All units have outdoor braai facilities and are serviced daily.
There are no facilities beyond a small shop which may run out, so bring all supplies. The camp is run by the local community but managed by Ermzwelo, so check in is at Mpila Camp.

This remote unfenced bush camp has no facilities and is wonderfully quiet. A place to completely unwind! Situated on the bank of the Black Umfolozi River with a superb view of the river, lush bushveld, and various game sightings.
8 two-bed self-catering modern chalets with en- suite shower and w/c, can be booked individually or as a group. 2 3/4 beds are pushed together if required to make a king sized bed. Kitchens are fully equipped. Pricing depends on whether they have full/ partial river views or bush views. A cook is provided for a group booking from 5 – 8 units.
There is a viewing deck to observe the river. The communal lounge has seating with chairs and couches plus DSTV. There is a firepit with circular seating. The camp is solar and generator powered. Bring all provisions incl. firewood, purchased WITHIN the reserve, and drinking water. Bring powerful torches.
The camp is well run run by the local community, so providing work and income but is under the control of Ezemvelo Parks. Book and check in at Mpila camp.
