The Joubert-Tradauw Private Cellar is located just outside picturesque Barrydale. Life around here is mainly about two things: fruit of the vine and the work of human hands. Step into the clean, crisp air and onto the rich, fertile soil of the Tradouw Valley.

Meyer Joubert, an award-winning winemaker, studied viticulture at Elsenburg near Stellenbosch and thereafter in California’s famous Napa Valley, before returning to South Africa to make his own wine. Guido Franque, author of Monuments of SA Wine, had this to say “He believes in little intervention during the winemaking process. His wine cellar is simple yet functional and appropriate regarding space, temperature and humidity. You would imagine yourself in an authentic barrel cellar somewhere in Chablis”.

This too, is the home of the much-loved R62 Deli Alfresco, which specializes in Klein Karoo tapas from a Mediterranean-style farm kitchen with rustic décor and an inside fireplace. Guests can dine outdoors, weather permitting, in true al fresco style under the vine-covered veranda, overlooking the farm, the majestic Tradouw Valley and the Langeberge.

The R62 Deli is renowned for its platters and Klein Karoo tapas using fruit from the farms such as fresh figs, nectarines, Kakamas peaches and more. Try rosemary and lemon chicken; a small bobotie with onion relish, beetroot with feta and herbs; tzatsiki with pumpkin seeds and more. Home-made offerings include tapenade, onion relish, balsamic reduction, fig paté, pesto and preserves include plum, fig, peach, quince and pear. Hardly surprising the food is good as Beaté is a well loved cook book author.
