On the banks of the Orange River, Khamkirri provides a range of interesting and exciting activities for visitors and guests. Both individuals and families are catered for. Afterwards, relax on the restaurant deck overlooking the river, for a cocktail or enjoy a meal.
Activities range from relaxing river cruises on the barge, a paddle on calm waters or, when the river is just right, to an exciting white water experience. There are also guided tours and land based activities.
On the river-
Sundowner River Cruise on the barge for an hour to hour and a half. If you would like to toast the sunset, you can purchase drinks at the pub and they will be packed up with ice in a cooler box for you to enjoy while cruising. Maximum of 15 people. R190pp.
Inflatable Boat Hire. These are propelled by paddles…. that means you. They are stable craft and can take up to 2 people. It’s a great way to explore the river and your trip can be as relaxing or energetic as you decide. R200 an hour.
Guided Nature Paddle on kayaks. See the water birds, and possible a fish eagle, learn about the river and enjoy this one hour paddle on the mighty Orange River. R280pp
White Water Experience. This is a fantastic way to enjoy the river with adrenalin pumping as you navigate both calm water and rapids. We provide the safety helmets and life jackets. This is dependent on the river as it needs to be at just the right height to give lots of fun but not danger. Please check ahead to see how the river is running.
Fishing: There are plenty of fish both for fly and bait fishing. There is a catch and release policy. Khamkirri has a couple of basic rods to use but we suggest you take your own kit.
On land-
Sundowner Drive: Toast the sunset and enjoy the scenery on a drive to a view point. You may also see some small game: Springbok, Klipspringer, even Caracal is possible. R100 pp.
Morning Nature Experience, Guided: Leave before sunrise to see a wide variety of plains game from the game viewing vehicle, You can also take a short walk and learn about the Kalahari from your experienced guide. Enjoy coffee and rusks en- route. R350pp.
Scorpion Hunt: A 1 hour walk to find a variety of scorpions and see them well with UV torches, so you enjoy them and they are not disturbed. Not possible on full moon nights… as they hide. R50pp
Birding: This area is rich in birdlife, with water birds, raptors and the veld birds. You can walk or hire an inflatable and very stable 2 man boat to paddle the river along the reeds.
MTB– There is a seemingly easy, but actually challenging, 5 or 10km route on gravel to enjoy.

Khimkirri is just an hour from Uppington. If you are staying on the other side of the river, the water taxi will ferry you across.
