Gravel Corridor Slackpacking

Walking from the “Karoo” to Montagu in 6 days via the Klein Karoo Gravel Corridor.

Distances vary between 14 and 24km’s per day and guests sleep in tents that are setup by the host. Every Guest Farm is out to spoil you with great food and be the best host possible on your journey. Each stopover is different ranging from Game Farms, Nature Reserves to private campsites. Great vast open spaces, fresh air and big skies promise a getaway into the “wild”. Find yourself, your rhythm, breathe and dream again. Leave the rat race and the cell reception behind as you embark on this journey to reconnect with yourself.

Arrive at Sandvlei Guest Farm, R318 on the day or a day before the journey starts, on the R318, where you can safely leave your vehicle. This is where the tar road ends and your adventure begins.

Day One: 20km easy open gravel road to Drie Kuilen Nature Reserve, 4300ha with rich variety of fauna & flora, wildlife includes zebras, springbuck, gemsbuck, eland, black wildebeest, rooi hartebeest and more

Day Two: 14km of which 5.4km is good jeep track. Walking deeper into the stillness of the Klei Karoo, Gecko Rock promises a reconnection with yourself and nature

Day Three: longest day with 24km open gravel road, open clear skies and vast expanses. The campsite an old veewagter’s ruin restored, here you will hear the jackall at night and by now you have relearnt to breathe deep and slow.

Day Four: 17.5km all gravel road walk, now moving into the game belt of the Klein Karoo, names like Sanbona might ring a bell. A small quaint campsite on a farm and real old style hospitality.

Day Five: 13.5km making your way down Ouberg Pass and then into Ouberg Nature Reserve over the Pofadder climb. As you descent you will see a gem hidden in the valley. Stillness, peace and tranquillity has already become part of your experience and here amongst the hills it is accentuated again.

Day Six: 20km’s along the Ouberg gravel road towards Montagu, the last 7km’s you will start to see farming activities and slowly get back into “civilization.” We regroup at The Barn Restaurant, Montagu, R62 and here our shuttle will pick us up to travel the 60km’s tar road back to the start of the journey.

Shuttle options available from almost anywhere, see website for details.

Luxury Slack-Packing option:
