This is the iconic, original private game reserve in the greater Kruger area, developed by the Rattray Family.

It is both the oldest and largest of the South African Big 5 private game reserves.

The land is now owned by the community who also have shares in MalaMala. This means that the community benefits directly from every visitor to these privately owned camps.

MalaMala has kept the standards high as befits a six star game reserve. It has also kept the atmospheric feel of a real game lodge.

The reserve teems with game, the rangers are outstanding and facilities superb.

There are 3 camps: MalaMala Camp, MalaMala Sable and MalaMala Rattray’s Camp, which is closed for refurbishment in Feb, Mar and April 2023.

MalaMala Camp*****

An unfenced oasis in the bush with unrivalled views of the Sand River and visiting game.

Understated elegance where rare memorabilia sit comfortably with stunning modern wildlife art.

18 suites with safari decks and views over the Sand River or a watering hole.

MalaMala Sable Camp*****

On an elevated area at the end of the main camp with views over the Sand River or a watering hole..

A more intimate version of the main camp with just 7 suites with verandahs.

No children under 12.

A lovely private camp which can be used for private groups of 14 to 20 guests.

MalaMala Ratray’s Camp******

This is an intimate glimpse into an era long lost, when travellers from afar married the magic of the African bush with elegance and refinement.

Just 8 free standing exclusive and luxurious suites with verandahs and dipping pools.

Game vehicles have a maximum of 4 people.

No children under 16.
