The Map of Africa is a spectacular scene of mountains and forests. The Wilderness area is known for it’s rivers, lagoons and natural lakes, and at the view site you see the meandering Kaaimans River and valley. The course of the Kaaimans River has shaped a ‘map’ of  the African continent. It is impressive!

If you are lucky you may meet one of the ladies who volunteer to maintain the area. They will share some interesting details about the view site.

By Car: An information board shows the direction to Map of Africa from the N2. The last stretch to the view point is a good gravel road. This is a popular view point and a long row of cars line the road on weekends. The views on both sides are excellent. To the right is the Map of Africa view point and to the left is a paragliding take-off spot.

Have a look at Eden Adventures and take a canoe trip to tell friends you have paddled around the African continent!

The paragliding launch site overlooks a long stretch of wilderness beaches and the deep blue ocean. The steepness and  height make it a great spot for take-off . Groups of people watch as paragliders take off. It is a nice place to picnic too.

By MTB: Start and return … the Garden Route Dam entrance, (-33.964967, 22.497612). It is a ride along the old Seven Passes Road between George and Knysna, then right at the T Junction to Wilderness Heights and follow the detour to the View site.

It is 27.8kms and takes 1 hour 10 mins. to 2 hours and is a moderate ride with an elevation of 768 ms. To download GPS for your phone, see George Trails. https://georgetrails.org.za/map-of-africa/
