An eleven night, guided 12 day walk through the Midlands, KZN. Shared comfortable accommodation and all meals are included. This is slack packing, so luggage is transferred and so are you when necessary! You can choose to do the full 12 day walk, a shorter 3 or 4 day multi-day walk or even a single day walk.
The choice of accommodation is good, ranging from historic buildings and farms to modern 4 star accommodation. If possible single room occupancy can be accommodated at a higher rate per night.
All profits go to the Midlands Hospice.
Enjoy the lush landscapes, rolling hills, mountain views, rivers, waterfalls and diverse flora and fauna. Hear about farming in the different areas. With ample time to reflect on life, it is an opportunity to challenge yourself with long-distance walking while taking in the local landscape and the way of life in this diverse region.

The May 2025 Midlands Camino starts from the Karkloof Country Club and ends in the uMngeni Valley.
Day 1. May 5th 2025: Distance: 10km +/-. Degree of difficulty: Easy.
Interest: Waterfall and Forests
Meet at the Karkloof Country Club. Afternoon walk to the Karkloof Falls
Accommodation: Shafton Grange Guest House. Built in 1852 and made from yellowwood with the elegance of a bygone age.
Day 2. May 6, 2025: Distance: 25km/-. Degree of difficulty: Moderate to challenging at times, steep hills! Interest: Forests and Farmland
Walk from the Karkloof to Curry’s Post. Curry’s Post was formerly the main transport route between Durban and the interior. Accommodation: Yellowwoods Farm. The house was built in 1880.
Day 3 May 7, 2025: Distance: 20km +/-. Degree of difficulty: Moderate (hills and scrubland)
Interest: Gardens and History, including a visit to Brahman Hills Garden.
Walk from Curry’s Post to Nottingham Road
Accommodation: Nottingham Road Hotel
Day 4. May 8, 2025: Distance: 21km +/-. Degree of difficulty: Moderate. There are some steep hills!
Interest: Cranes and Farms
Walk from Nottingham Road through The KZN Crane Foundation to Rosetta and up the Kamberg Velley.
Accommodation: Forty Winks Farm
Day 5. May 9, 2025. Distance: 25km +/-. Degree of difficulty: Easy/ Moderate. This is a long day.
Interest: Farming
Depart on your walk up the Kamberg Valley, a farming area with lovely views and hiking.
Accommodation: Glengarry Holiday Farm – a nature lover’s paradise.
Day 6, May 10, 2025: Distance: 25km +/-. Degree of difficulty: Moderate. Most of the walk is through farmland.
Interest: Rivers and Mountains.
Walk from the Kamberg Valley to Lower Loteni and the Invermooi Estate which has 8km of the Mooi River within its boundaries.
Accommodation: Invermooi Estate-top Angus Beef farm with good bird and mammal populations.
Day 7 May 11, 2025: Distance:25kms. Degree of difficulty: Moderate. Interest: History and farming
Walk from the Lower Loteni to Fort Nottingham
Depart on your walk to the Fort Nottingham area.
Accommodation: Otters Den along the banks of Lions River with spectacular views.
Day 8 May 12, 2025: Distance: 25km +/-. Degree of difficulty: Easy. Interest: Forests and Mountains
Walk from Fort Nottingham to Dargle and the foot of the infamous iNhlosane Peak.
Accommodation: Mount Park Guest Farm-the original farm house dates back to 1856. The farm. although simple and rustic has warm heart and a great location at the base of the iNhlosane Mountain.
Day 9 May 13, 2025: Total Distance: 25km +/- incl. a moderately challenging 2 hour hike up and down the mountain. Degree of difficulty: Moderate. Interest: Mountains and forests
Hike up iNholsane Mountain and continue to up the Dargle Valley.
Accommodation: Inversanda Farm Cottages
Day 10 May 14, 2025: Distance: 20km +/-/ Degree of difficulty: Moderate. Interest: Forests and villages
Walk from the Dargle Valley passing Midmar Dam and into the township of Mpophomeni. The Zulu Mpophomeni Tourism Experience (ZMTE) is an award winning, not-for-profit organisation set up to offer visitors an opportunity to experience the authentic Zulu culture and explore unspoiled township life. Midlands Hospice does much of its work here.
Accommodation: Qalakahle Lodge- A privately owned home in the heart of this friendly township

Day 11 May 15, 2025: Distance: 25km +/-/ Degree of difficulty: Moderate.
Interest: Village life and forests and factory visit for coffee and tasting.
Walk from Mpophomeni to Hilton
Accommodation: Hilton Bush Lodge
Day 12 May 16, 2025: Distance: 21km +/-. Degree of difficulty: Difficult. Interest: Nature Reserve
Depart on your walk from Hilton into the uMngeni Valley Nature Reserve and WESSA.
