This lovely 149 year old building was purchased by Marc and James who set about lovingly and sensitively, restoring it.  Light was added via windows and period pieces, local art and texture was found to give the property a truly Karoo feel. The result is Mukti, from the Sanskrit word for spiritual liberation.

Mukti is beautifully curated to give you a space with a sense of place with modern comfort, to relax and imbibe the spirit of peace and stillness that is Nieu Bethesda’s quality as it nestles on the plain overlooked by grand mountains.

There is a lovely verandah, or stoep with sofas and dining table, a sun terrace, an intriguing cacti  garden and swimming pool. Birds and birdsong are your backdrop. An outdoor fireplace and hot tub, plus braai facilities make evenings under the clear skies perfect as the town does not have street lighting.

This is perfect self-catering, in the village but with enough to keep you home when you want your own company. The lounge with period and modern juxtaposed has a fireplace for cosy winter nights and antique chandelier hanging from original Oregan ceilings. There is stunning art throughout including work by some of South Africa’s best. A well stocked library, good WiFi and desk space, open plan kitchen with kitchen dining table. The kitchen has Smeg and a Dover stove plus all you need including a washing machine. Parking is on site.

There are two spacious bedrooms with fans and air conditioning, the main en-suite is a king with a mountain view, and the second en-suite is a twin room – both with sumptuous mattresses and 600 thread-count cotton linen.

The housekeeper Angeline will on request make bread for you and she will assist beyond her regular clean twice a week, by arrangement.
