Sardine Run Ocean seafari:
We specialize in this amazing, exciting event. We know the area well, including hiding spots and our professional team includes our spotter plane pilot. When the action is fast moving it is easiest to snorkel with this and scuba diving is best done when the action is in one place and slower. There is also plenty of action if you prefer to watch from the boat.
This is, without exaggeration, likely to be the experience of a life time and all depends on what Nature offers on the day.
Annual Whale Migration:
Humpback Whales migrate each year to calf, from their home in the Antarctic, northwards to warmer water in Mozambique & Tanzania.
Females give birth in the warmer waters and entire family groups can travel together, or mother and adolescent or an all- male group.
When? From late May into early June and then their migration back south from early September until late November, even as late as December.
During this time, we witness some exceptional displays of breaching, spy hopping, lob tailing and some very vocal communication.
Ocean Adventures:
3-hour ocean experience trip year-round, excluding Sardine Run time for anyone wishing to see the beautiful coastline from a boat.
Enjoy the thrill of a typical African surf launch and spend time out on the ocean, viewing whatever Mother Nature has to offer at the time.
You will possibly see our resident pod of Bottlenose Dolphin, sea birds or Humpback Whales between June and November.
An ocean experience is a MUST DO as it allows one to view scenery and places of interest that cannot be seen on foot.
Photographic trip to Umgazana mangrove estuary system & Brazen Head:
Half day trip by sea to Umgazana mangrove estuary system & Brazen Head.
This is the largest most southern mangrove system, with red, white and black mangroves.
When conditions allow, we enter the beautiful estuary from the ocean and travel inland a little way.
If visibility is good, snorkelling is easy and very interesting.
Umgazana village is picturesque and you can visit an enormous cave easily on foot.
Brazen Head, slightly further south, is a great stop as the scenery is stunning.
Photographic trip to Waterfall Bluff:
Half day trip from Port St Johns northwards to Waterfall Bluff passing truly beautiful, dramatic and rugged scenery.
Points of interest include Poenskop, Ntafufu, Manteku, Shark Point and Mbotyi. If conditions permit, we may stop to look at a shallow wreck, Mielieskerk.
Waterfall Bluff is one of just 19 waterfalls in the world that fall directly into the ocean. The scenery is breath taking.
Cathedral rock and false cathedral are the photographers dream shots!
Port St Johns River Cruise:
The modern and cool looking Bobalong barge is available daily to show you the delights that the river and valley has to offer.
With a good sound system, this can be a floating party or you can listen to the sounds of nature as you move along, drink in hand, including the iconic fish eagle’s call.
Take a popular sundowner trip that departs at 4pm in summer (September – April) and 3pm in winter (May – August).
Trip duration is approximately 2 hours, depending on how much fun you are having.
R170 per person. Under 10s are half price. Prices subject to change.
PADI sanctioned scuba courses are available on request.
