STUDIO3 is Durban’s first collaborative Art Studio and is the brainchild of Dee Donaldson and Sharon McClelland, both of whom are well known figures on the Durban Art Scene.

Dee Donaldson studied Fine Art at the KwaZulu-Natal Technikon, gaining a National Diploma Fine Art in 1989, she then went on to do her National Higher Diploma Fine Art in 1990 with her Major in Painting, graduating with distinctions. She was awarded an H.S.R.C. Bursary, as well as the Emma Smith Overseas Scholarship in 1990.  Dee started teaching painting in 1996.

Sharon McClelland studied Fine Art at UKZN in Pietermaritzburg completing a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art) in 2009 majoring in Printmaking, History of Art and Museology. She then went on to do a BAFA Honours (cum laude) in 2010. She was awarded the Rita Strong Scholarship in 2009/2010 & 2011 and the CVA award (UKZN) in 2010. Sharon opened her Studio – “The Printing Press – Durban” in 2012.

STUDIO3 is situated off Mahatma Gandhi Road in Southampton Street in an Historic building which used to house the Municipal Fire Station and Police Station. In fact, the original city council coat of arms has been retained and faithfully restored. The area has a wonderful cosmopolitan atmosphere and is the perfect place for an Art Studio.

The Studio offers daily printing and painting classes, as well as weekend Workshops in both printing and painting. It also hosts a number of guest artists doing workshops in their disciplines, as well a variety of other artistic pursuits.
