Between Durban and Pietermaritzburg is a malaria free game reserve with masses of game and bird life. As some of the game is not at all camera shy, it allows for close encounters not usually experienced. Beautiful settings of natural bush teem with wildlife and the sounds of Africa.
Self drive viewing is rewarded with good game sightings.
Tala is a partnership between the local community and the lodge, so supporting here is both worthwhile socially and a wonderful African bush experience. It is so conveniently located that day trips are very manageable from Durban.
Word of warning: The public facilities were horrific when visited. They were poorly maintained, with broken doors and exceptionally unhygienic. There is a pool area where you can braai but be warned that this is seen as a party venue by some with load music, totally in contrast with the ethos of a wildlife reserve.
