Set within 27 hectares of pristine indigenous forest, 3 hectares of fynbos and 6 hectares of open grassland. This encourages a wide range of birds and the dawn chorus with over 100 species of bird is incredible. At night the sounds of owls, nightjars and bushbuck amongst others will lull you to sleep. There are excellent walking trails and places to swim in rocky river pools.
This is an eco resort and is 100% off grid and sustainable.

All our suites are nestled privately within the magnificent indigenous forest. Built in a gorge so access is from ground level and the front of the suite is on stilts ranging from two to six meters above ground, you will enjoy breath-taking views of the Karatara Gorge or the majestic Knysna Forest.
Each suite is a combination of tent, wood and glass and this is within the forest, so birds, forest animals, insects and nature is all around you. You may well find the odd spider in your suite, so Teniqua is best suited for nature lovers. The suites all have WiFi.
DIY Meals can be purchased on arrival.
Choices are:
Philosophers Perch and Forest Elders are Family Suites. with 2 bedrooms, 1 king bed & 2 singles/1 king. Can sleep 4. Shared bathroom. Fully fitted kitchen.
The Eyrie and Tranquility are Couples Deluxe Suites. 1 bedroom with Queen bed plus a double sleeper couch in the lounge or bedroom. Can sleep 4.
Loeries Nest, Gorge View and Moon Over Milkwood are Couples Suites. 1 bedroom with Queen bed for 2 only. The bedroom in Gorge View has wonderful elevated views to maximize the sunrise.
Green beard is a Couples Suite for 2 only, which is also wheelchair friendly. 1 bedroom with Queen bed.
Kitchens have 2 plate stoves plus microwave, fridge and all the equipment that you need.
Bathrooms have corner baths with forest views with showers, and some have separate toilets. The small lounge has views of the forest and the decks have wonderful views of forest or gorge plus a Weber for charcoal only braais.

There is a pub on site with TV, a fire pit under the stars, an outdoor swimming pool and good kiddies play area. Ducks, chickens, peacock and peahen roam about plus the odd grumpy horse or donkey.
In the entertainment area there is a wild-fig tree that is its own eco-system. At night, if the fruit is ripe, you’ll see fruit bats enjoying a feast. During the day, Cape White Eyes, Knysna Turacos and Forest Canaries dine on the fruit. Vervet monkeys may even dare to snatch a fruit or two.
With 48 hours notice and dependent on the guide’s availability, you can book a star gazing experience, which is memorable.
