This is an easy to moderate trail within the Highmoor Nature Reserve and a great way to experience what the San Bushmen’s lives were like overnight. Brilliant place to adventure with the family. You can do this as either a day or overnight hike.

The cave is large with a sandy floor. It is well protected from wind and water is right there. Altitude- 1909m. Not only are the views stunning, but there is a waterfall and Berg pool to enjoy and swim in.

You can get there independently and need to book via Ermzvelo. The maximum number of people allowed is 8.

We recommend using Berg Adventures to arrange this as an overnight hike and lead you. Deon is a very experienced and knowledgeable guide.

Hike Details:

Start: Highmoor Nature Reserve car park. Go North West towards a gate and turn right at the sign.” After 250m going downhill cross the stream over a wooden bridge and after another 250m further along the path after the stream crossing take the path to the right which leads to the small Kamloops Dam wall.  Once past the dam, take the left path which leads gently uphill.

Once over this small hill you begin to slowly go downhill and then cross a stream (2.2km into the hike), a waterfall can be seen to the right where you cross the stream.

After the stream crossing the path turns East/right alongside the hill in front of you. Follow the path and just before it ends is a steep path with steps winding down the hill towards the stream and Aasvoëlkrans Cave.”
