About 200 000 years ago, during a warm wet period, Afro-montane forest stretched all the way from the equatorial East African highlands to the Cape, covering most of the eastern half of the country. Remnants of this lush fern forest surrounds the Forest Retreat with soothing sounds of water and bird life as your backdrop.
