Umdoni Park Golf Club, one of the most attractively situated in KZN, has breath-taking sea views from 70% of the golf course and is situated in 200 hectares of indigenous coastal forest.
Established in 1920 and measuring only 5 560 meters from the tips, it is a sufficiently stern test of skill to merit hosting several top KZN amateur events.
The 18 holes are over truly striking terrain, with the front 9 running alongside the sea, long hitters enjoying driving short par 4s, and the back nine stretching inland through dense indigenous forest vegetation. Umdoni park is anything but flat and it’s elevation changes, test your skill. The par 5 thirteenth and par 3 sixteenth holes are both elevated tees, which make length judgment critical. The 110-metre Majuba, twelfth hole has the green high in the forest above the tee.
The finish is a grand one. The challenging par-4 seventeenth, climbs uphill to an elevated green, and a walk from there through the forest takes you up to the highest point on the property. The tee of the par-5 eighteenth, has memorable views down over the course, the clubhouse and to the ocean.
On a fine day, lush fairways underfoot, varied wildlife and birds around you and with ocean swells breaking into white caps, a round at Umdoni is food for the soul – this is how golf is meant to be.
The lovely clubhouse has a casual restaurant and bar with relaxed atmosphere and good ocean views. Meals use high quality ingredients and are freshly cooked. Try the Umdoni Grill or pasta, seafood, a gourmet burger, curry, a vegetarian option or sometimes, pizza or a pulled pork pie.
Golfers can also enjoy a scrumptious something to go such as a favourite: our Breakfast Roll with rustic cut chips.
With Botha House B&B and the Forest Cottages on site, Stay & Play packages are available or just come and rest your soul.
