This is a must visit. Its design by American company, Creative Kingdom Inc. i.e. the Disney group, is both charming and unique and the aquarium is incorporated into a mock 1920s cargo shipwreck. The tanks contain a range of some 300 types of fish, including sharks, turtles, rays and gorgeous tiny seahorses.
It is also a marine theme park with a water world feature running through it. The local Zulu theme mixes with the marine theme. There is a large dolphin pool for shows, a charming African penguin colony, you can watch sharks being fed and there is a research institute here, doing good work behind the scenes. uShaka Marine World is committed to conservation and runs several initiatives to protect marine life, such as turtle rehabilitation programs and beach clean-ups.
Close encounters are facilitated with the Snorkel Lagoon and the Sea Animals Encounter Island.
The place is big, with a total area of 16 hectares, so allow the day, even if not going on the waterworld feature. You cannot take food in, and there are a lot of places to eat in the retail area, but they are over priced. We suggest you take a break at the restaurant built into the hold of the ship, called The Cargo Hold. It is not cheap but portions are generous…. and you sit eating next to a large tank with sharks. Well worth the stop.
