Embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of South Africa where you can escape the hustle of everyday life, and recharge your soul amidst breathtakingly landscapes!  This journey is not about the destination – It’s about appreciating the space in between.

In addition to the amazing nature experiences, Nico, a seasoned facilitator, will guide you as a mentor, leading you on an inner journey of self-discovery. This transformative Camino walk will involve daily reflections, personal growth, and creative expressions. Each day will begin with setting intentions and conclude with reflections on the day’s experiences and challenges. The Camino will serve as a path of self-discovery, celebrating achievements and overcoming obstacles.

Trip Details –Arrival Day 1:

We embark on your adventure in Clarens, the entrance to the majestic Maluti Mountains.  We meet and greet and acquaint ourselves with the surroundings of this beautiful village.  You will be given your private journal.

Stay at Elsewhere Guesthouse

Day 2:  13km

Traverse the 800-hectare Clarens Nature Reserve with breathtaking mountain views. The trail meanders amid ancient sandstone structures and verdant valleys teeming with a variety of plant and animal life. The air is refreshing and brisk, carrying hints of wildflowers.

Next, we hike through St Fort Farm, a place that transports you to a simpler time, away from the urban rush. St Fort has the Mushroom Rock and sandstone formations create a landscape filled with caves, ravines, and hidden corners.

Stay at Domain Sérénité

Day 3:  14km

We hike towards the Caledon River, bordering Lesotho through stunning farm vistas and awe-inspiring landscapes. We’ll pass beneath sandstone cliffs and see great views of Lesotho, encounter scenic rock pools, and venture into a forest with a magnificent overhang of multicolored sandstone. During the summer, a seven-story waterfall cascades from above.

Nestled at the base of the Maluti Mountains, we stay at a hidden treasure, the Old Mill Drift Guest Farm, surrounded by a magical and captivating landscape.

Day 4: 17km

Walk the stunning Maluti route, renowned for its beauty and scenic views, with the Eastern Free State’s  ‘God’s Window’. Keep an eye out for blesbok, reebok, duikers, and various other wildlife. Bird enthusiasts may spot the paradise flycatcher, hoopoe, raptors, and the majestic, crested barbet. The majority of this route follows the Caledon River, giving a picturesque setting.

Day 5: 15km

We  ascend above the world, reaching the summit of the Verwulf Mountains giving expansive mountain views of Lesotho to the south and the well-tended lands of South Africa to the north. You will stand in a place where dinosaurs once wandered. Discover an authentic 190-million-year-old dinosaur footprint along this path, clearly visible and belonging to the Theropod family. You will also find the Queen Victoria rock formation, Khoi San rock art and a dinosaur’s femur imbedded in rock.

Stay at Lesoba Guest Farm

Day 6: 7 km

We pass a semi-circle of red and yellow sandstone mountains, surrounded by a wonderful wilderness area and stunning views from every side. During the day, we visit the waterfalls and caves and simply unwind in a place where the silence sings. After the walk, you will enjoy more local hospitality.

 Stay at Mafube Mountain Retreat

Day 7: 15 km

Meiringskloof Nature Park nestles in a stunning kloof surrounded by sandstone cliffs, expansive caves, dense indigenous vegetation with diverse bird species. Explore the Free State’s hidden gem – the ancient water tunnels. These remarkable tunnels, shaped over millions of years by sandstone erosion, lie concealed in a deep valley of the Rooiberge. Historically, Boer families sought refuge in these tunnels to evade British soldiers. Serving as effective hideouts, the tunnels provided scouts with a strategic vantage point to monitor the surroundings for potential threats from all directions.

Stay at Meiringskloof Nature Reserve

Included: Shared accommodation, two meals a day, and a snack pack, Guiding Fee, a journal to use for reflection and notes. Tea/Coffee (No Alcohol is included) and slackpacking
