Fenced off from the Babanango main game reserve, Matatane has no dangerous mammals. The camp offers comfortable chalets along with activities such as a multi-platform zipline, obstacle courses, walking trails and secure swimming pools. Ask about visiting the main reserve for a Game Drive to see the Big 5 as these are booked separately.

The White Umfolozi River snakes its way for 20km through the rugged hills of Babanango Game Reserve. Here the river has incised deeply into the earth’s crust exposing ancient rock formations including granitioids and greenstones associated with the Kaapvaal Craton.
These are among the oldest exposed rocks to be seen anywhere on Earth along with the first fossil evidence of primordial life. Ancient people have been drawn to this region for hundreds of thousands of years – long before the Zulu nation stamped their authority on the area. Early Stone Age bifacial axes can be found along the river banks, Middle Stone Age blades and cores are in abundance around the reserve, and Iron Age smelting kilns are clustered around ancient stone-walled embattlements.

Accommodation in comfortable self-catering chalets. There is the option of full board as well. All are non smoking. Children are priced depending on unit chosen.
Each chalet has WiFi, a tea/coffee station, seating area, patio, desk, safe, air conditioning and ceiling fan plus a safe. Bathrooms have showers only and there are bathroom amenities and hairdryers. Units are cleaned and there is a turn down service.
