A few more options to explore South Africa’s marine creatures all around the coast. Just click on the photos to see details.

1. Penguins.

Boulders Bay                                                                            Stony Point

The little African penguins can be seen in protected colonies at Boulders Bay, Cape peninsula and Stony Point in Betty’s Bay, Overberg.

Visit an interesting rescue centre for these penguins and sea birds- African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary.

2. Seals.

Take a boat out with Ramonza Boat Trips, Mossel Bay to see and hear about these agile swimmers.

You can also swim with seals on a guided excursion with Offshore Adventures, Plettenberg Bay. A fantastic experience.

3. Explore coastal pools on the Garden Route with Moonlight Meanders. A wonderful exploration of rock pools with a qualified guide.

4. Turtles.

Watch loggerhead turtles laying their eggs or the hatchlings scramble for the sea. This takes place along the iSimangaliso coastline. You will need a guide as the areas are off limits without a certified guide. Your accommodation may have their own guide or will point you in the right direction. Book well ahead as the groups are kept small to protect the turtles.
