Central Berg Route: (View Map & details)
The Central Berg has 4 landmark peaks: Monk’s Cowl, Cathkin, Champagne Castle and Cathedral Peak. We also cover the southern central area, around Giants Castle and Highmoor. For those who can, the Berg is about hiking. Wonderful trails are well marked and a mountain register in some areas keeps track of those on more adventurous hikes.
This area is the most developed area in the Berg offering a wealth of options for tourists beyond the wonderful outdoor options, from artisan food to a ceramics studio to a game reserve and also a brewery and a wine estate. One of the world’s top boys’ choirs is based here and their lively concerts are excellent. There are hotels, B&Bs and many self -catering cottages plus some unique accommodation experiences. It is also the area where you can learn about San Rock Art at the Game Pass Cave.
