An itinerary covering Cape Point’s exit on the eastern side to St James. It is just 21 gorgeous kms and depending on traffic can take 30 minutes. Click on the links provided here for details.
Best to check into your accommodation then you can move back and forth along this lovely coast without baggage. Have a look at our hand picked options. We suggest at least 4 nights.
There are stunning beaches all along the way. The first is the closest to the Cape Point exit … Smitwinkel’s Bay. Park at the top and hike down. It is a steep climb but worth it. Lovely little sandy swimming cove at the bottom.
Spend your first day visiting Boulder’s Bay. Allow about 2 hours to visit the little penguin colony. This is a must visit. Your entrance fee helps protect them here and maintains the wooden walk ways which keep both dunes and penguins safe. You can swim nearby too, so take cozzies.
Then visit Simon’s Town and the Museum. Allow a half day.
Kalk Bay, voted as one of the world’s top neighbourhoods, is a little piece of eclectic, quirky, arty heaven. There is a Main Road and off it wonderful alleys stretching up the hill, to explore. It feels a little as if one is in Italy. Allow at least a day to explore, eat and shop. See our choice of art galleries and do not miss them.
Allow at least a day to swim, laze on a rock or just enjoy the tidal pools, we recommend Dalebrook, and the wonderful beaches. Water sports are king here. Try kayaking, diving or snorkeling. The underwater scenery with reef and kelp forest is superb. We recommend 2 excellent companies.
See our selection of where to eat. We are still working on this area so more are being added.
Some lovely walks are a must. For the fit climb Jacobs Ladder in St James, wander along the edge of False Bay in Fishoek and enjoy the Historic Walk using our notes, from Kalk Bay to Muizenberg.
If you do not want to drive, take the train from Cape Town, or even better, use the Ceres Rail Company’s steam train on Saturdays and public holidays.
