There is a handful of our specially chosen places to eat out. We love all things artisan and direct you to really delicious places to buy food, be it olives, bread, wonderful cheeses, organic foods or great goodies for ‘le picnic’. There is thirst quenching craft beer and an award winning vineyard … YES in KZN !
Some of the area’s best artists and crafters have opened their studios for you to visit. Just make an appointment as many are in home studios. There is no charge and no obligation. It is incredibly interesting and they are a particularly nice bunch!

The Saunter’s choices include superb cuisine as well as layed back spots to linger for lunch with great ambience and views. Some will inspire you and some will let you chill as only KZN can. There is South African haute cuisine, Greek family cooking, Portuguese treats, spiced fusion food, vegetarian specialities, great hamburgers, township foods and Italian seafood with finger licking infused sauces.

Outdoor activities on The Saunter
Lovely options to choose from for families, friends, those who want a relaxed saunter and those who are serious sports junkies. You can swing over the tree tops on a fast zip line, learn archery, walk in a beautiful conservancy to spot interesting birds, hike to visit a San Bushman cave, sail in a catamaran around Durban harbour, follow the tracks of wildlife as you walk through the bush, hire a bike to cycle along Durban’s beautiful Golden Mile Promenade, race down South Africa’s fastest MTB route, among many choices.

Visiting art and craft studios with The Saunter.
It has been said that we have outstanding artists in our area. Have a look and see what you think. We have selected a wide range of art styles and a wonderful group of crafters so that there is something to interest everyone. You can watch how glass is blown, try your hand at mosaic and see how potters throw a lump of clay on a wheel to end up with a beautiful piece. There are guys who make amazing pieces out of wood. Watch a blank sheet become a beautiful painting. Find out why some artists choose oils, some watercolour and some acrylic. Some of our artists are young and new on the art scene and some are known here and overseas.

How do you access the great ideas for ‘What to do’ that The Saunter has for you?
Just 5 easy steps, even if you find computers make you squint !!!
Step 1. Go to our website on https://www.thesaunter.co.za/
Step 2. Go to the Home page. Now scroll down until you see 6 photos. These are the 6 areas that we cover. Click on the area that you are interested in.
Step 3. Now scroll up again to just below the big grouped banner photo of what you may see on The Saunter. A white search bar asks ‘ What’ and then ‘ Where’. In the ‘Where’… when you click, a drop down choice of the areas, Saunters 1 to 6, will show. Click on the one you chose from the photos.
Step 4. In the ‘What’ section, just click and you get a drop down box with lots of options e.g. Accommodation, Leisure Activities, Art and Crafter Studios, Eating and Drinking, Shopping Treats etc.
Click on each that interests you and you will have a great choice in the area… keep checking that the ‘Where’ is still showing the Saunter number you chose. When the choices show, just click on the ones you really like, to see more information, maps, times etc.
Step 5. Next to each choice is a map to show you how to get there. There is also a large map with all the choices clustered for the area. When you enlarge the map, by clicking on the + in the left hand corner, you can plan a route from one to the other.
The only thing left to do… is have a wonderful time on The Saunter!
